	Calhoun County Museum Matagorda Island Lighthouse Fresnel Lens The Matagorda Lighthouse went into operation in 1852. It survived the Civil War and numerous hurricanes over its years of operation on the Gulf Coast near Pass Cavallo. The lens now resides in the Calhoun County museum located in Port Lavaca, Texas. This is a 3rd Order Fresnel Lens. Orders are ranked 1 to 7, with 1 being the largest. The dimension of a third order lens is 4'8" by 3'3".  Calhoun County Museum Located at 301 S. Ann St., this museum is home to an impressive amount of history left by those who once called this historic area of the Gulf coast home.
