The Lavaca Bay causeway, linking Port
Lavaca and Point Comfort, became known as the longest fishing pier in the
world after it was replaced in 1961 by the current concrete causeway. The
pier was lighted and a was popular overnight destination for fishermen from
near and far.
Most of the pier was destroyed by two separate
fires. Some of it still stands, but is not accessible from land. In 2006,
a small lighted pier was constructed here. |
